- Oral hygiene begins at infancy. After each feeding, wipe your baby’s gums with a moistened washcloth. You’ll remove bacteria and your baby will become used to the routine.
- Give water – not milk or juice – in baby’s bedtime bottle.
- Begin brushing with an infant brush as soon as baby’s first tooth erupts.
- Start dental visits at about 36 months of age. Continue regular check-ups.
- Consider sealants and fluoride treatments for children. Dr. Cha and Dr. Dinh can tell you more about the benefits.
- Speak in a positive manner around your children about dental care and visits to the dentist.
- Many books are available on the topic of good oral hygiene, so read to your kid.
- Teach your child to hum “Happy Birthday” while brushing to be sure he or she doesn’t rush through it.
- Check your child’s mouth after brushing and flossing to be certain teeth look clean and food debris is gone.
- Explain the consequences of poor home care – bad breath, cavities, toothaches, and fillings.
- Make sure your kids have a good diet, including healthy snacks. Encourage them to drink lots of water and limit soda and energy drinks.
- Influence teens to make good lifestyle choices with regard to tobacco and alcohol.
- Encourage teenagers to carry a toothbrush, travel size toothpaste, and floss to after-school activities – and use it.
- Most importantly, set a good example as your child sees you take great care of your own mouth!

The office staff is always very professional & very friendly. My wife and I feel the service and quality of the dental care is the best in the area and well worth the 30 minute commute from Emmitsburg, MD. We have 3 boys and they love the video games in the waiting room and have never complained about going to the dentist (not once).
